broccoli


Broccoli is a member of the Brassica family and is a close relative of cauliflower and cabbage.

Why is it good for my body? Broccoli is a true super-food containing viamins A, B6, C, E, and K. It also contains fiber, folate, potassium, selenium, manganese, tryptophan, and phosphorus.
Where does it come from? Broccoli originates from Italy and its name comes from a word meaning "sprout". It is grown and popular thoughout the world, especially in European, American, and Asian cuisine.
What season is it fresh? Broccoli grows best in cool weather, like late spring and early fall. It can be found year-round in grocery stores.
How do I store and handle it? Broccoli should be stored in the refrigerator wrappped loosely in a damp paper towel. It shoud never be stored in a sealed container or plastic bag.
What are ways to eat it? One of our favorite raw preparations is Doctor Yum's Tangy Broccoli Salad. Broccoli is also tasty roasted, streamed, or stir fried.
