raspberries

Raspberries are from the genus Rubus and are members of the Rose family. These small berries are one of the world's healthiest fruits due to their dense nutrient content.

Why is it good for my body? Raspberries are very high in vitamin C, dietary fiber and manganese. They are also packed with antioxidants, phytonutrients, iron, magnesium, potassium, and zinc.
Where does it come from? There are many different species of raspberry cultivated around the world. They also come in a variety of colors. Besides the typical red, there are also purple, black, blue, and golden raspberries!
What season is it fresh? Raspberries can be found year round in grocery stores, although farm fresh raspberries are mostly a summer crop. When picking raspberries, only pick ripe ones as they will not ripen once picked.
How do I store and handle it? It is best to sort your raspberries after purchase and discard any that are bruised or moldy. Do not wash berries until you are ready to eat them. Store berries in the refrigerator in a container that allows air circulation.
What are ways to eat it? Raspberries are hard to resist as a stand alone snack! If you have any left, they are wonderful in salads, smoothies, and jams. Try making Doctor Yum's Chia Jam!
