mangos


Mangos are a tropical stone fruit native to South Asia. They grow on trees and the ripe fruit comes in a variety of colors: yellow, orange, red, and green.

Why is it good for my body? Mangos are known to help balance cholesterol levels because they are rich in fiber, pectin, and vitamin C. They also contain potassium, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin E and antioxidants.
Where does it come from? Mangos are the national fruit of India, Pakistan, and the Philippines and it is the national tree of Bangladesh!
What season is it fresh? Mangos are widely cultivated in tropical places around the world and are available year round in the grocery store.
How do I store and handle it? When firm, mangos can sit at room temperature to ripen. Once ripe, store in the refrigerator for up to five days.
What are ways to eat it? Mangos can be used in a wide variety of ways. They are delicious as a stand-alone fruit or mixed in a salad, smoothie, or salsa. In different world cuisines, mangos are pickled or used in curries. Try Doctor Yum's Mango Salsa for a yummy snack!
How do I introduce it to first-time tasters? Mangos have a very sweet flavor and soft texture, which is great for first tasters. It can easily be mashed and mixed with other foods.
