There are many different types of lettuce, varying in taste, color, leaf size and nutritional properties.

What season is it fresh? Lettuce likes cool weather for growing and is most available fresh from the farm in late spring, early summer, and again in the fall. Lettuce is readily available in stores year round.
How do I store and handle it? Lettuce needs to be kept cool, from the time it is harvested to the time it is eaten. It is never frozen or canned. At home, keep lettuce refrigerated.
What are ways to eat it? Lettuce is a staple raw ingredient for most salads, but it can also be added to sandwiches, tacos, and other dishes. Romaine lettuce can also be very tasty as a grilled vegetable. Try Doctor Yum's Salad Maker to experiment with different lettuce varieties.
