radishes

The radish is a root vegetable in the Brassicaceae family. Radishes have a mild to hot peppery flavor and a crunchy texture.

Why is it good for my body? Radishes may be an overlooked vegetable, but they have great health benefits! Radishes are high in vitamin C and also have strong detoxification properties. Radishes contain potassium, folate, vitamin B6, and manganese. They are not big, but pack a good bit of fiber into a small package!
Where does it come from? Radishes were first cultivated in China, but spread throughout Europe in the 1500s and reached Massachusetts by 1629. Now, most states grow radishes with Florida and California leading in production. Radishes are related to wasabi, a type of horseradish.
What season is it fresh? Several varieties of radish are available year round.
How do I store and handle it? Radishes should be stored in the refrigerator, with the green tops removed.
What are ways to eat it? Most people enjoy radishes as a crunchy, peppery addition to salads, but they are delicious roasted or added to stir fry.
